Marithé and François Girbaud have been visionaries from their very beginning.
Already in 1967, they were the first to pre-wash denim. They introduced the industrial method to age denim in 1972, started CLOSED in 1977, and in the ’80s they were already creating clothes that now would be defined as streetwear.
In 1984, they invented “destroyed” denim, and in 1987 they used a sport fabric, “moser,” initially intended for sports garments, for urban use.
In the early ’90s, Girbaud explored new ways to wash and produce used denim with far fewer ecological consequences.
The very concept of baggy jeans was also invented by the duo, and the list goes on.
After a decade of pausing their creations in Europe, Marithé and François Girbaud are back in Europe after signing a license with We Care About.
After testing several series through pop-ups and “cabines,” the time is ripe for a full comeback of GIRBAUD.
